Personality Psychology

With millions of people in this world, there are bound to be an array of different personality types. There are 16 personality types that the psychologist Carl G. Jung has come up with based off of a person's preference towards each of the four functions: Extroverted (E) vs. Introverted (I); Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N); Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F); and the dominant function, Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P).
Extroverted vs. Introverted represents the way a person directs their energy expression. Someone that is more extroverted directs their energy towards the external world, often finding that interaction with others in that world to come more naturally to them. While someone that is more introverted directs their energy expression towards their own internal world. Sensing vs. Intuition refers to the method in which someone takes in information. Sensing means that the information that a person believes mainly comes from the direct external world, however intuition means that someone mainly gathers their information from an internal or imaginative world. Thinking vs. Feeling refers to how a person process information. Thinking means that a person makes their decisions based on logic, while feeling means that a person makes their decisions based on what they feel they should do. Now Judging vs. Perceiving refers to how a person applies that information. Judging means that a person organizes all of their life events and sticks to their plan for their life. While perceiving means that they are inclined to explore and be adventurous with options that life offers them.
Knowing what each of these four functions stood and having a greater understanding of the test, I wanted to see what my personality type is from the 16 combinations, so I took Jung's test myself. My results were an INFJ, Introvert (50%), Intuitive (6%), Feeling (16%), and Judging (44%). The percents mean that I lean towards those sides of the functions by that much or by that much percentage. I looked into INFJs further to see if it truly was a great match for me and after further research I really think it comes close to describing me. Some of the things that really stood out to me about INFJs are the fact that they desire closure or completion, they put a lot of responsibility on themselves, they are good at reading others intentions, can be quieter than others but often deep in thought, and they often show great empathy towards others. Jung's Personality test really nailed it for me. I really enjoyed gaining a grater insight into the personalities, especially my own. I highly recommend you go and find out which of the 16 personalities you are and see if you agree!

  1. Hey Jessica! Great job on your post! I think one thing that might help your posts would be to add a couple more photos. Other than that I really liked it. I actually can see all of those traits in you. I am a ISTJ, so we are not that much different! I am excited to see what you will write about in the future!

Building Your Brain Activity

To help me build a brain, I enlisted the help of my four-year-old cousin  Brigg . I chose him to help me out because he truly loves to learn. As a four-year-old he can tell you who our president, vice president, and secretary state are, as well as he has an incredible vocabulary.        Now he was a little camera shy, but when the camera was off we continued our discussion about the brain and he was actually able to retain some of the facts that I told him. But I believe his favorite part of the activity was for sure building the brain with play-doh . I pulled up several pictures of the brain on my computer for us to model our brain off of. I did not ask him to make any of the specific parts of the brain for me, because when I pulled the pictures up he said, "I am only four, I don't know if I can do that.", so we just went with sculpting the four lobes to form our brain.       ...

Sensation and Perception

Our brain has many different tasks, but the one I will be focusing on is the role it plays in our sensation and perception. What are sensation and perception you may ask? Well when your body receives information from your sensory organs, such as your eyes, ears, skin, or nose, it must process it, this is know as sensation. Perception is the psychological aspect of processing that information from the sensory organs and interpreting, as well as using that information.               Now that have a better understanding of sensation and perception, I want to focus on in particular illusions . This can be know as a trick of the mind. However Michael Bach defines them as, "phenomena as highlighting particular good adaptations of our visual system to experience with standard viewing situations. These experiences are based on normal visual experiences, and thus under unusual contexts can lea...

About Me

Hey yall! My name is Jessica Phillips and I am from Dallas, Texas. Well when I leave HSU and go home I go to a little town just south of Dallas called Ovilla. It is a one street light town, that you could drive right through and never even know that you were in it. Now there is one school in Ovilla called Ovilla Christian School and that is where I attended school all 13 years of my education before coming to Hardin-Simmons University. I was always really involved at OCS and to this day I still am. I chose Hardin-Simmons to continue my education because of all of the opportunities it offers, along with the great atmosphere and people here. I also have a twin sister, Kellie, who also decided to continue her education here at HSU too.  My family is all really close to each other. When I am not at college, I live with my dad, mom, twin sister, grandmother, uncle, aunt, and cousin Gabriella. Not to mention our four legged friends, which we have four dogs, Blossom, Molly, Amb...
