About Me

Hey yall! My name is Jessica Phillips and I am from Dallas, Texas. Well when I leave HSU and go home I go to a little town just south of Dallas called Ovilla. It is a one street light town, that you could drive right through and never even know that you were in it. Now there is one school in Ovilla called Ovilla Christian School and that is where I attended school all 13 years of my education before coming to Hardin-Simmons University. I was always really involved at OCS and to this day I still am. I chose Hardin-Simmons to continue my education because of all of the opportunities it offers, along with the great atmosphere and people here. I also have a twin sister, Kellie, who also decided to continue her education here at HSU too.
My family is all really close to each other. When I am not at college, I live with my dad, mom, twin sister, grandmother, uncle, aunt, and cousin Gabriella. Not to mention our four legged friends, which we have four dogs, Blossom, Molly, Amber, and Scruffy. So yes, we may have a full house, but there is a lot of love in it!

As for myself, I am a pretty shy person when I first meet people. But I promise when I get to know you more and warm up to you, then I become more outgoing. I am also a really indecisive person, which is probably why I am currently undecided on my major. However, I am leaning towards Exercise Science, because I want to persue physical therapy. When I asked my family what they would compare me to, they said it would have to be a red panda. Their reasoning was because I can be sweet and kind, but at the same time I have the red headed temper. I hope that you all enjoyed getting a little glimpse into my life and learning a little bit about me.

  1. Jessica, even though I already know a lot about you I thought reading this was very interesting! I wish you would have written a little bit more about yourself, because personally I know you are full of interesting facts and ideas. I definitely did not see the red panda comparison coming, but I can definitely see where your family believes it is a perfect comparison of you. I encourage you to really try to put yourself out there more this semester, because you have a great personality and are a very fun person to know!

  2. Hey Jessica, I already know a lot about you because we went to the same school obviously. This was very interesting and too bad you didn't put anything about yearbook in your post. I heard that the yearbook back home was really missing your expertise in the yearbook room. Keep working hard and do great this semester.

Building Your Brain Activity

To help me build a brain, I enlisted the help of my four-year-old cousin  Brigg . I chose him to help me out because he truly loves to learn. As a four-year-old he can tell you who our president, vice president, and secretary state are, as well as he has an incredible vocabulary.        Now he was a little camera shy, but when the camera was off we continued our discussion about the brain and he was actually able to retain some of the facts that I told him. But I believe his favorite part of the activity was for sure building the brain with play-doh . I pulled up several pictures of the brain on my computer for us to model our brain off of. I did not ask him to make any of the specific parts of the brain for me, because when I pulled the pictures up he said, "I am only four, I don't know if I can do that.", so we just went with sculpting the four lobes to form our brain.       ...

Sensation and Perception

Our brain has many different tasks, but the one I will be focusing on is the role it plays in our sensation and perception. What are sensation and perception you may ask? Well when your body receives information from your sensory organs, such as your eyes, ears, skin, or nose, it must process it, this is know as sensation. Perception is the psychological aspect of processing that information from the sensory organs and interpreting, as well as using that information.               Now that have a better understanding of sensation and perception, I want to focus on in particular illusions . This can be know as a trick of the mind. However Michael Bach defines them as, "phenomena as highlighting particular good adaptations of our visual system to experience with standard viewing situations. These experiences are based on normal visual experiences, and thus under unusual contexts can lea...
