Personality Psychology

With millions of people in this world, there are bound to be an array of different personality types. There are 16 personality types that the psychologist Carl G. Jung has come up with based off of a person's preference towards each of the four functions: Extroverted (E) vs. Introverted (I); Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N); Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F); and the dominant function, Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P).          Extroverted vs. Introverted represents the way a person directs their energy expression. Someone that is more extroverted directs their energy towards the external world, often finding that interaction with others in that world to come more naturally to them. While someone that is more introverted directs their energy expression towards their own internal world. Sensing vs. Intuition refers to the method in which someone takes in information. Sensing means that the information that a person believes mainly comes ...

Character Study

Hey everyone, this week I will be doing a character study on my grandmother . I chose her for this study because I know she is a very open and always looking to learn more about herself.  I started this study by having a conversation with my grandmother just about herself and why she thinks she is the way she is. The main point that came across to me from this as to why she acts the way she does was because she came from an open, conversational family. This is also the way that she brought up her family.                 She believes that a lot of her traits , which are  personality characteristic that can be used describe someone , were picked more from her mother and her grandparents, since she is very similar to them. Some of her strong traits that were easy to determine are the fact that she is most definitely an extrovert, her conscientiousness, her agreeableness, and her openness. She always been an extrov...

Developmental Psychology

Developmental Psychology is the branch of psychology dealing with how people grow, develop and adapt at different life stages. This includes physical, cognitive, social, intellectual, perceptual, personality and emotional growth. Developmental Psychology is necessary for us to look into because it gives us a better understanding of how humans learn, mature and adapt. The role that our parents play in our lives, helping us grow into the people that we are today, is a major one that we might over look. Today I am going to be answering some questions about my parents and myself on the topic of Developmental Psychology in order for you to get a better understanding of my development.  Reflect on the way you were raised. Consider the parenting behaviors (e.g., rules, discipline strategies, warmth, and support) used in your household when you were a child. Why do you think your parents behaved this way? How do these factors fit with the influences on parenting describ...

Sensation and Perception

Our brain has many different tasks, but the one I will be focusing on is the role it plays in our sensation and perception. What are sensation and perception you may ask? Well when your body receives information from your sensory organs, such as your eyes, ears, skin, or nose, it must process it, this is know as sensation. Perception is the psychological aspect of processing that information from the sensory organs and interpreting, as well as using that information.               Now that have a better understanding of sensation and perception, I want to focus on in particular illusions . This can be know as a trick of the mind. However Michael Bach defines them as, "phenomena as highlighting particular good adaptations of our visual system to experience with standard viewing situations. These experiences are based on normal visual experiences, and thus under unusual contexts can lea...

Building Your Brain Activity

To help me build a brain, I enlisted the help of my four-year-old cousin  Brigg . I chose him to help me out because he truly loves to learn. As a four-year-old he can tell you who our president, vice president, and secretary state are, as well as he has an incredible vocabulary.        Now he was a little camera shy, but when the camera was off we continued our discussion about the brain and he was actually able to retain some of the facts that I told him. But I believe his favorite part of the activity was for sure building the brain with play-doh . I pulled up several pictures of the brain on my computer for us to model our brain off of. I did not ask him to make any of the specific parts of the brain for me, because when I pulled the pictures up he said, "I am only four, I don't know if I can do that.", so we just went with sculpting the four lobes to form our brain.       ...

Brain and Behavior

Isn't the brain amazing? Our brain is constantly taking in and processing new information. Have you ever though about how often you blink or breath during a twenty-four hour span of time? Or how your tongue knows exactly what to do in order to produce the words that you would like to say? Your brain is the one that is responsible for this so that you do not have to constantly think about all that your body has to do in order to produce these functions. Just thinking about all that our brains do through out our everyday life, without us even acknowledging it, is quite astonishing.        One of the TED Talks that I watched and was quite intrigued by what I learned was conducted by Carl Schoonover , in which he explored how neuroscience has advanced and how we get see the wiring of the brain works through chemical staining. He compared our brains complexity to that of a computer, but we are able to see how the computer wor...
