Character Study

Hey everyone, this week I will be doing a character study on my grandmother. I choseher for this study because I know she is a very open and always looking to learn more about herself. I started this study by having a conversation with my grandmother just about herself and why she thinks she is the way she is. The main point that came across to me from this as to why she acts the way she does was because she came from an open, conversational family. This is also the way that she brought up her family.
She believes that a lot of her traits, which are personality characteristic that can be used describe someone, were picked more from her mother and her grandparents, since she is very similar to them. Some of her strong traits that were easy to determine are the fact that she is most definitely an extrovert, her conscientiousness, her agreeableness, and her openness. She always been an extrovert, even as a little girl being willing to
talk to anyone. She especially lacked shyness when it came to performing in front of people. But mostly now in her older age, she is very outgoing in conversation with others, as well as very affectionate in a hugging grandmother way. Since she is such an extrovert, she is very attentive to others. She was always raised to be hard-working, and is still going today. She is also a very kind hearted person. She is often asked 'are you always this happy.'  When it comes to her openness, this really comes out in her endless seeking with her curiosity to know more. "I am a seeker of truth and a listener" she said. One of the traits which I would think is harder to pin point for her would be neuroticism. She is a very emotional person, saying she has always been this way, but at the same time she is very noncombativeNever going to bed angry is always been something that she has lived by. Even growing up, she had a strong dislike for arguing. Her traits have become more prominent as she has aged and accumulated more life experience. "I have developed as person so much as I have gained knowledge from my life experience."
After looking into my grandmothers individual traits I would believe her to be an ENTJ. An 'E' because she is very much am extrovert. I chose an 'N', standing for intuition, meaning she is more inclined to believe the information that she receives from the internal or imaginative world rather than the external world. I say this because she often believes what she is told and what she comes across. I picked a 'T' for my grandmother, meaning she makes her decisions based more on logic. But this was a difficult one because she is also a very emotional person and could very easily lean towards an 'F'. Lastly, I chose an 'J', meaning a person organizes all of their life events and sticks to their life plan. She may not have stuck with her original life goal of wanting to be a singer, but she is really into learning from her past life events which is why I chose this for her.
She really thought the ENTJ characterization was really interesting and she said she just might have to go take a personality test to really determine her true results. Not only did I have a great time doing this character study but my grandmother did too. I was able to learn more about her and shewas also able to learn a little about herself too.

  1. Glad you were able to bond with your grandmother over this experience! Your grandmother sounds like a very courageous and noble woman . I would agree on the ENTJ classification. You did a wonderful job organizing this post, so I don't really have any complaints. Excellent work!

  2. I think it is awesome how you interviewed your grandmother because it is so important to know our past and where you came from before you can continue with your future. I love how your grandmother was so open to learning new things about herself and how I was able to learn who she is as a person and how that has carried down to you. This is good because i bet that some of her personality traits have passed down to one of your parents and from there down to you. I would have liked it if you would have put her reactions to the personality test on this because it would have been interesting to see if she would have know that or not about her self.

Building Your Brain Activity

To help me build a brain, I enlisted the help of my four-year-old cousin  Brigg . I chose him to help me out because he truly loves to learn. As a four-year-old he can tell you who our president, vice president, and secretary state are, as well as he has an incredible vocabulary.        Now he was a little camera shy, but when the camera was off we continued our discussion about the brain and he was actually able to retain some of the facts that I told him. But I believe his favorite part of the activity was for sure building the brain with play-doh . I pulled up several pictures of the brain on my computer for us to model our brain off of. I did not ask him to make any of the specific parts of the brain for me, because when I pulled the pictures up he said, "I am only four, I don't know if I can do that.", so we just went with sculpting the four lobes to form our brain.       ...

Sensation and Perception

Our brain has many different tasks, but the one I will be focusing on is the role it plays in our sensation and perception. What are sensation and perception you may ask? Well when your body receives information from your sensory organs, such as your eyes, ears, skin, or nose, it must process it, this is know as sensation. Perception is the psychological aspect of processing that information from the sensory organs and interpreting, as well as using that information.               Now that have a better understanding of sensation and perception, I want to focus on in particular illusions . This can be know as a trick of the mind. However Michael Bach defines them as, "phenomena as highlighting particular good adaptations of our visual system to experience with standard viewing situations. These experiences are based on normal visual experiences, and thus under unusual contexts can lea...

About Me

Hey yall! My name is Jessica Phillips and I am from Dallas, Texas. Well when I leave HSU and go home I go to a little town just south of Dallas called Ovilla. It is a one street light town, that you could drive right through and never even know that you were in it. Now there is one school in Ovilla called Ovilla Christian School and that is where I attended school all 13 years of my education before coming to Hardin-Simmons University. I was always really involved at OCS and to this day I still am. I chose Hardin-Simmons to continue my education because of all of the opportunities it offers, along with the great atmosphere and people here. I also have a twin sister, Kellie, who also decided to continue her education here at HSU too.  My family is all really close to each other. When I am not at college, I live with my dad, mom, twin sister, grandmother, uncle, aunt, and cousin Gabriella. Not to mention our four legged friends, which we have four dogs, Blossom, Molly, Amb...
